In a unique and successful partnership, the cities of Huntington, West Virginia and Ironton, Ohio developed a comprehensive plan to address the economic, human development, physical and environmental needs of their communities. The Empowerment Zone designation empowers these communities to stimulate and support economic and community development in creative and effective ways. The Empowerment Zone in Ironton covers 6 miles, with a population of approximately 2,851. Its mission is to foster sustained economic opportunities for those within and outside of its borders.
